New Delhi: As part of the Budget session, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Economic Survey for 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha on Friday. After President Droupadi Murmu's address to both Houses of Parliament, she placed the Economic Survey before the House. Speaker Om Birla then adjourned the session until Saturday. Tomorrow (February 1), Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget to the House.
Presenting the Economic Survey before the Union Budget is a tradition. The survey helps assess the country's economic growth in the past year and forecast future challenges. The Economic Division in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance prepares the survey. Since 1950-51, the Economic Survey has been presented alongside the Budget, but after 1960, it has been presented one day before the Budget. The first phase of the Budget session will run from today until February 13, while the second phase will take place from March 10 to April 4.
What is the Economic Survey?
The Economic Survey outlines the performance of the Indian economy, government policies, and projections for the upcoming fiscal year. It is divided into two parts. Part-A analyzes the country's economic performance, reflecting key economic indicators and trends. Part-B addresses socio-economic issues like education, climate change, GDP growth, and inflation.
